Mitotyping specializes in crime scene hairs, missing persons, genealogical investigation, adoption maternity, historical cases, cold cases, ancient DNA, and post-conviction evaluation. Each sample is individually analyzed.
mtDNA v. nuclear DNA
Mitochondrial DNA is present in rootless shed hairs, hair fragments, skeletal remains, and other samples too minimal and/or degraded for STR testing.
Accreditation
Mitotyping has been an ASCLD/LAB accredited laboratory since 2001.
We are accredited under ASCLD/LAB's International Program, including
ISO 17025 Standards and ASCLD/LAB's Supplemental Guidelines.
Not every state requires certification or permitting, but we are permitted in the area of forensic identity by the New York State Department of Health and hold certifications for forensic testing in Texas and Maryland.
