Laboratory Director Dr. Robert Bever has over 25 years experience in forensic DNA analysis, laboratory management, and applied research.  He joined Mitotyping Technologies in 2014 and serves as laboratory director overseeing the laboratory operations for STR  and mtDNA analysis of forensic casework as well as directing the parentage testing laboratory.  Prior to joining Mitotyping Technologies, Dr Bever served as a Director and Vice President of Research at Bode Technology for 15 years managing  research projects associated with touch DNA analysis, low copy number analysis, STR and mtDNA analysis of  of chemically processed fingerprints, DNA analysis from exploded objects, recovery of DNA from paper documents, physical deconvolution of mixtures from sexual assault using laser micro-dissection techniques, development and optimization of buccal cell collection, and molecular analysis of pollen and particulate material from dust.   Prior to Bode Technology, Dr. Bever served as Laboratory Director for Forensics and Paternity Testing at Genetic Design, one of the first high throughput DNA analysis laboratories.  He has testified in court over 150 times, including early Frye and Daubert hearings, and has delivered numerous presentations before scientific, legal, and Department of Defense audiences. Dr. Bever earned  a PhD in Microbiology from University of Maryland.

 
Founding Director and Scientific Adviser Dr. Terry Melton has over 25 years of experience in the handling of human mtDNA and over 22 years of forensic mtDNA experience.  In addition to publishing original research in the Journal of Forensic Science, Investigative Genetics, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, and the American Journal of Human Genetics, she has been an invited speaker for numerous national and international conferences and has presented original research at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences annual meeting, the Promega Symposium on Human Identification, and SWGDAM conferences.  She is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and served three terms on the editorial board of the Journal of Forensic Sciences.  She has testified in many state, federal, and international courts of law.
 
 
Forensic Examiner and Quality Manager Charity Holland, MPH, has had extensive, focused experience in the handling of human DNA for the last 20 years.  Her previous stints as examiner and technical leader at both The Bode Technology Group and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Lab provided her with unparalleled opportunities to perfect skills on difficult samples.  She is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.  
 
 
Forensic Examiner Ross Kirkendoll, MS, has over 13 years of experience in forensic STR analysis, evidence screening/serology, and paternity/relationship testing. Previous experience with both government and private forensic DNA labs including stints as forensic examiner, DNA technical leader, and quality assurance manager has given him a wealth of experience with both routine and very complex cases. He is a member of the Association of Forensic DNA Analysts and Administrators.
 

Forensic Examiner Gloria Dimick, MS, has over 16 years of mitochondrial casework experience at Mitotyping Technologies.  She specializes in handling exceptionally challenging evidence samples.  Gloria has successfully yielded mtDNA profiles from extremely minimal and degraded samples including 2 mm hairs and bones of historical importance. While her primary focus is mitochondrial analysis, she has STR casework experience as well.  Prior to working at Mitotyping, Gloria worked at Penn State University for 10 years in various research positions including clinical chemistry, virology and the core DNA sequencing facility.  Gloria has coauthored articles in peer reviewed journals, presented at MAAFS and is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta Honors Society.  

 
Relationship Testing Manager and Forensic Technician Michele Yon, BS, has been employed by Mitotyping Technologies for nine years, and has extensive experience in mitochondrial DNA testing as well as autosomal STR testing and analysis.  Michele participated in the validation of Quantifiler, Identifiler and PowerPlex 16 HS.  She has testified three times in forensic cases (one time on mtDNA and two times on STRs).  With the transition of Fairfax Identity Laboratories operations to the State College, PA facility, Michele has switched her focus to management of relationship testing.  She continues to participate in the forensic proficiency testing program and performs forensic casework as needed.
 
Relationship Testing Technician Rhiannon Barry, MS, joined Mitotyping Technologies in February 2015 after starting her career in Animal Diagnostic and Entomology Research Laboratories.  Her extensive experience in molecular diagnostics in high-throughput accredited laboratories allowed for an easy transition into the field of STR testing and analysis.  She is responsible for extraction and amplification of DNA for relationship testing, STR analysis using Genemapper ID-X, accessioning of casework and laboratory ordering of supplies.  She has completed proficiency testing as part of the AABB accreditation standards for this laboratory location.  
 
Forensic Technician Sarah Copeland, MS, joined Mitotyping Technologies in March 2015. She is responsible for general laboratory maintenance, extraction and amplification of DNA from evidence, mtDNA analysis, and accessioning of casework.  Sarah is currently finishing her Master of Science in Forensic Science at the University of California Davis where she performed research on the analysis of degraded mtDNA from bones using Next Generation Sequencing.  She is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
